Should people have to pay for water, food, and energy?

freeconomy

One of the critical reasons that we have so many major issues in the world today - such as climate change, sweatshops, wars over oil reserves, factory farms, polluted oceans and rivers - is because we never have to see the direct repercussions that our purchases have on the people, environment and animals they affect. The degrees of separation between the consumer and the consumed have increased so much that it now, conveniently, means that people are completely unaware of the levels of destruction and suffering involved in the making of the 'stuff' they purchase. We have no longer any idea how much embodied energy has gone into the things we consume. The main reason we have no appreciation for this energy is because we are so disconnected from what we buy. The tool that has enabled us to be so disconnected, so separated from what we consume, is money, especially in it modern globalised format.

Take this for an example. If we grew our own food, we wouldn't waste a third of it as we do today. If we made our own tables and chairs, we wouldn't throw them out the moment we changed the interior decor. If we had to clean our own drinking water, we probably wouldn't defecate in it.

If we could see the child working under military presence in a sweatshop, we would probably think twice about buying that new pair of jeans on the High St. If we could see the face of the mother in Iraq as her child lies dead from a cluster bomb, we'd probably think twice about going on an oil-guzzling cheap flight for the weekend. If we could see the size of the landfill sites where our 'stuff' goes, we would probably have a lot more respect for what we have and use.

Money, as a method of easily storing wealth, has also enabled humans to bank exploitation - of people, the environment and animals - and has also replaced communities, friendships and families as the No.1 source of security for people.

Il be phoning Mr Richard Bowran Sawbridgeworth Town clerk and RFO and sending a letter to Councillor B. Rochester, T. Dodd and P. Coysten as i dont have email adresses for them.

Ive sent this email to max keiser:

Hello max,
My name is Blake, im a big fan of the keiser report. Im starting a hunger strike on may 6th which is election day in the uk. Im striking against banking hedgemony, plutonomy corporatocracy. I am a member of the zeitgeist movement, which im sure you've heard of.
The aim of my hunger strike is to get uk government to de-monetise food (real food, not confectionary or mcdonalds) water and energy, as i believe, that its not just possible but vital. I have a basic knowledge of economy and finance, which has been embellished by you, and stacy, and your guests. I think i gettit now. ITS RIGGED!!!
If you want to know more about the hunger strike you can see the blogs @ http://hungerstrike2010.blogspot.com/2010/05/thinking-and-talking-and-planning.html
You can find me on twitter @ http://twitter.com/pac3mak3r
I'm hoping that you can give me a mention on one of your shows. You dont have to mention my name, im not looking for personal notoriety, but i think the fact that anyone in the uk is hunger striking against this financial terrorism is worth a mention. I would love to come on your show, but im nowhere near as clued up as your regular guests.
Thanks for all your excellent work
Blake

My parameters, and why im taking this option

People have asked me, "if you see the standard of living in third world countries as unacceptable, why cant you, instead of putting yourself through that, just work to change it, whilst keeping yourself healthy?" Good question. My answer is that its reasonable to assume, things are getting better and that those in the third world, through financial and humanitarian endeavours will eventually be out of debt, and thier standard of living will be raised. This is what mass media, and others who stand to profit from your obedience want you to believe. The truth is that poverty and disease is not diminishing and ending, it is increasing and spreading, and sorry to burst your bubble, but you can expect a third world standard of living in the uk and usa amongst others. The reason is the profit incentive. IF IT WAS PROFITABLE TO FEED AND HOUSE EVERYONE, THAT WOULD BE BEING DONE, MAKE NO MISTAKE, IT IS NOT PROFITABLE AND THERFORE IT WILL NOT BE DONE. Even if your politicians and corporate entities are or were moral, and truthful, the incentive is to profit, at any social and environmental cost, and they must succumb or be out of a job. The agenda is differential advantage, totaltarian control and slaughter.

It is absolutely vital, that if you want an insight into why i'm doing what i'm doing, you watch and understand Zeitgeist addendum, and future by design. Also on the watching list is blue gold world water wars, food inc, the corporation, Peter Josephs lectures: Where are we now, where are we going and social pathology. The work and lifetimes of Martin Luther King and Mohatma Ganmdhi have inspired me a great deal over the last two years and Jiddu Krishnamurti.
If you are not aware of the vast amount of global deaths disease and suffering caused by starvation and restricted access to clean water, get aware, and once you have become aware accompany said awareness by any research you feel is required into the different kinds of technology available to us, which can solve the problems of clean water supplies, renewable energy and starvation globally; im sure you will understand, and hopefully you will show support, or even join me.

So this is the post in which i'l lay out, exactly what i'l be putting myself through and why. I will not be eating solid food. I will be drinking water, and allowing myself, if my health deteriorates, to drink pureed fruit. If i can physically withstand the absence of pureed fruit i will in other words. Obviously this will have to do with my own personal pain threshold, and conviction. I will certainly document exactly what i consume to the last gram, so that anyone following this blog can make up thier own mind as to whether or not im seeing this through. I think this will be at the least an interesting account of what its like to starve from a westerners point of view, and at the most, a personal experience that could never be bought monetarily speaking, and a wake up call to sleepy, greedy over-consumers in my locality.
The reason im doing this. Now thats a more difficult thing to lay on the line. Im doing this because i believe there is something more important in this world than my own well being. I can say im attempting, to be altruistic. I know if i take a risk, with good judgement, and thereby broaden my horizons, or someone elses, in balance to how much damage i do myself, i have acheived something worthwhile.
In life things are not always as they seem. For instance the irish hunger strike of the eighties saw prisoners, rebelling against margaret thatcher. Hunger striking, at some points characterised by prisoners smearing excrement over thier cell walls. Now that may seem disgraceful to some people, as it does to me, but perhaps for different reasons. Its all a matter of perspective, and degree. I joined tzm at the beggining of 2009, but since 2001 i've been trying to figure out if paid work is debt enslavement, if money is the cause of our societal problems, and not the answer to them. Can 1 person can make a difference? Now that i categorically understand that the answer to those questions is yes (come on, it doesnt take a rocket scientist, if i can figure it out, so can you if you havent already) i see that the way i fit into society is up to me. Not my job or my bank balance or my social standing or my credentials, but the incorruptibility of myself which manifests as a balance between composure and aggression.
So the hunger strike will be chracterized also, by a reluctance to monetarily involve myself in this paradigm. I am receiving jobseekers as of two weeks ago, and its getting paid into a halifax account which is overdrawn and frozen (because they charge me £5 a day for an overdraft of as little as £1 since december 31st 2009 which was described by a county court judge i told about it a fortnight ago as disgraceful and i quite agree) so i'l not see a penny of that money. And when i go to sign on, a fortnight from tomorrow im going to tell whoever i speak to that il be on hunger strike and that i am reluctant, to put it nicely, to involve myself in all the fraud and theft that constitutes a system of fiat currency. And as such, they're going to cut me off most likely. Now when they do, il stop receiving benefits for my council tax and my rent. And furthermore, i have to go to court in one monthes time, and explain what my plans are to pay for the debt im already in to council and housing association.
On top of that my wife is in the third trimester, and so other sacrifices i'l make will be to do with her. To summarize, its going to be hell, just like it would have been anyway, except i'l also be starving.
It neednt be this way.
That is the point im trying to make. People neednt have this type of stress and worry in the west. And people neednt starve to death in the east. WE ARE CAPABLE OF OVERCOMING THESE SETBACKS THROUGH TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCE NOW
The policy change we all hope to see is that our government de-monetises food energy and water, to get the ball rolling, and eventually money will be gone from our communities. I hope my reader realises the implications of a one world governance and a one world currency. It will be a prison-planet where the quality of life will be a third world standard for 95% of the population. That is how monetaryism works, it leads to monopoly, it leads to destructive psychopathic behaviour.

OUR FOOD SUPPLY IS BEING MANIPULATED BY VESTED INTERESTS: HUGE CORPORATIONS LIKE MONSANTO. IN FACT I WILL OUTRIGHT ACCUSE MONSANTO OF BEING A MURDEROUS GROUP OF SOCIOPATHIC BUISSNESMEN, WHOSE INTENTION IS TO HARM THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD, SO THAT IN TURN THEY FINANCIALLY, OR IN TERMS OF POWER AND RESOURCE ACCESS; **PROFIT**. I CANNOT ALLOW THIS TO BE THE WORLD MY SUN IS BORN INTO, I WILL SHOW THE PEOPLE WHAT IS HAPPENING and as i suffer IN THE PURSUIT OF THAT REVELATION so be it. I love you all, even you wack-out psycho buissnessmen, you are all products of your environment and conditioning, and you dont need shooting, or imprisoning or lynching, you just need help. This is my way of giving it to you. I forgive you

Thinking and talking and planning.

First off I don't want to die yet. I am not suicidal and I will be eating whatever the bare minimum is to keep me alive. I've never done one before; here's what wikipedia say about hunger strike.

A hunger strike is a method of non-violent resistance or pressure in which participants fast as an act of political protest, or to provoke feelings of guilt in others, usually with the objective to achieve a specific goal, such as a policy change. A notably successful hunger strike was that of Mitch Snyder in 1984 who, as a member of the Community for Creative Non-Violence (CCNV), undertook a hunger strike lasting 51 days which resulted in the U.S. government donating a federal building which became a 1,400-bed Washington DC Federal City Shelter. Most hunger strikers will take liquids but not solid food. A hunger strike cannot be effective if the fact that it is being undertaken is not publicized so as to be known by the people who are to be impressed, concerned or embarrassed by it. Hunger strikes have sometimes been ended through the use of force-feeding.

I decided to do this, this morning. Then i visited a friend, who told me this was madness. That he had serious concerns for my mental health, and that it was nothing more than an egotistical cry for help.
He's a full time live and on-line poker player. Everything he says to me about my life choices, I'd say right back at him. The only difference is whether our lifestyles are considered anti social, en masse.
One thing we can agree on is that it's a cry for help.

I am a member of The Zeitgeist Movement, formulated in exemplary fashion by peter Joseph, Jacques fresco, Roxanne meadows and about half a million others, all every bit as important and vital to the movement as the next. No hierarchy, no leader, no guru no master, no saviour. I am a standalone complex I'm proud to say, an individual component of a network, and thereby a paradox. Some particle compounded into one article, suuu
Although I am an accumulation of ideology's and gene and meme replication, I can tell you that I made this choice on my own, with no encouragement from anyone to take this path in fact, quite the opposite. My Dad said this is bad timing, and that first I should get settled and sort out my wife and son. As far as I can see, there is no more functional, passive action I can take to assure a decent future for them.

I will be keeping a blog doing some v-logging, and contacting as many local groups, politicians, councillors, and establishments as well as local media as I can, to let them know of our plight. And when I say our, I mean the other billion people on this planet who are needlessly starving. By doing this I hope to replicate their plight locally and make it harder for locals of Sawbridgeworth Hertfordshire and the rest of the U.K to look the other way as someone starves. Also by experiencing this feeling I hope I'll be able to empathise with people having this kind of distress inflicted on them, and I truly believe if everyone else said no, I'm not doing the monetary jive any more, that in itself would bring the system to a stop and adapt it therein.

Starting on election day may 6th. I strike until not only myself, but also my people are guaranteed access by the "uk government" or global powers that be; to food (real food, not the FAKE FOOD they pump out) water (tap not bottled; anyone who can't see the difference http://storyofstuff.org/bottledwater/ ) and energy FREE.
We know its possible, and that it would benefit everyone on the earth to begin with this resource based initiative.
